Horrific Abuse Against His Children Lands Long Island Dad 57 Year Sentence

A Selden father will spend up to 57 years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing three of his children over a 13-year period, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Friday, Jan. 10.

The 68-year-old man subjected his children to years of unimaginable abuse between 1997 and 2010, prosecutors said. The victims, then just 7 to 13 years old, were too frightened to report the abuse, fearing separation from their siblings.

“It is unconscionable that a father would subject his own children to years of such heinous acts of sexual violence,” District Attorney Tierney said. “Our hearts go out to the victims for their bravery in coming forward after everything that they endured.”

The children finally reported the abuse as adults, leading to the father’s conviction on charges of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child and Sexual Abuse, authorities said.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis sentenced the man to 32 to 57 years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

Assistant District Attorney Michelle Chiuchiolo of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau prosecuted the case, and Detective Ashley Berube, formerly of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section, conducted the investigation.

The man’s name has not been released to protect the victims’ identities, prosecutors said.
